ALTENEW

**GIVEAWAY** Easy Watercolor Background Wash + Intricate Die Cutting

Hello there! Today is an exciting day because we get to play with some long-anticipating product since Jan of this year! And it happens to be one of my favorite coloring mediums, watercolors. Let’s dive in!

Altenew is showcasing its brand-new Watercolor 36 Pan Set along with some great related products like Watercolor Brushes, Watercolor Palettes, and Watercolor Pan Case. These not only work great with the Watercolor 36 Pan Set but also works wonderfully with your other coloring mediums or water-based dye inks/sprays!

I decided to create a simple card featuring a gradient watercolor background using a couple of shades and add a touch of intricate dies to add details to the card.

You all know (well, if you are a frequent visitor to my blog) that blue is my favorite color and I often go for those various blue shades for projects. Today’s card is no different! I chose a bit of light green/teal color along with a light blue shade for the background.

All you have to do is pre-wet the watercolor paper with clean water and add layers of colors on top while adding some dry time in between. Then you get to have a soft, nicely blended watercolor wash that is oh-so-easy to create!

For added details, I chose the Leaf Frame Cover Die from last month’s release and cut it with a Pale Gray cardstock. I added some very thin foam tapes underneath it for added dimensions, but if you like you can also cut a few layers of these and stack them on top of each other.

The sentiment is best kept simple when creating a card with other intricate designs, especially if you want to show off the background peeking through. So Fine Alpha die set was the perfect choice to create a short but sweet sentiment for the card.

Share with me below, what are some of your favorite ways to use watercolor mediums on your projects?

    well done and tfs

  2. Absolutely love this! A watercolour set that is compact, easy to carry around, that co-ordinates with all my Altenew Inks. Love that the pans can be taken out so that individual colours can be replaced that are used more often. And the card inspiration is awesome!

  3. Very soft and pretty card…..I am loving this watercolor set…thank you so much for sharing your lovely work.

  4. Great reminder to us all, that we don’t have to be experts at watercolouring! A nice gradient backdrop can be a thing of beauty.

  5. Lovely card design! My favorite ways to use watercolors are to color in stamp outlines, and to make various backgrounds.

  6. CAS, yes, but so striking! Love the gradient blue shades so very calming. I will love using these paints. I am so glad the hop brought me to you. I am a new subscriber.

  9. I’ve been blog hopping all night! I must say I have gotten loads of inspiration from you and everyone else. The die you used is so pretty and I love Your soft blue blended background.

  10. Very lovely card! I really like the different shades of soft blues water colored on this card it really is very pretty looking!

  11. This card is very pretty, the watercolor Is the perfect backdrop for the intricate die cut frame. These colors are gorgeous and the case and brushes seem very practical. Thanks for all you share Nicole!

  12. This is beautiful and a skill that I have not mastered yet. My most favorite way to play with watercolor is to wet paper and start dropping colors, then sit back and watch it do its thing! I also love coloring in some lovely floral images with watercolor. I took a class at a local craft store once and we just painted shapes (circles/triangles) with water and added color, then cut them out. They make very interesting card elements. Thank you for another jump start. I plan to paint all day tomorrow!

  13. Your card is very elegant and beautiful. I have not tried any watercoloring yet as I was still deciding what brand to go with…. yep, you guessed it this Altenew set is going to be the one. Now I just have to get it, I will be so excited to try it when I do get it.

  14. Unfortunately the pictures didn’t come through so I could see what you did. I know they must have been very special.

  15. Great card – thanks for the inspiration with the alphabet dies! And although blue isn’t my favourite colour, I love what you have done with it!

  16. I LOVE your card! So simple, yet elegant. I am new to watercoloring, (just ordered this set) so I don’t really have a favorite way. Can’t wait to play!

  17. I love the simplicity of your card – the lovely background wash and that classic leafy frame die. It’s such an elegant and a good reminder that you don’t need to fuss all the time to great a gorgeous card! Beautiful!

  18. This is beautiful Nicole. I love doing washes for backgrounds as I am a w/c newbie however, I am now embossing floral’s and water colouring them in. Practicing as much as possible and watching lots of videos. I am determined to learn as I love it so much.

  19. I love the watercolour set and I love how the sentiment is clear and perfect against the bright, subtle wash of colour in the background. Thanks for the inspiration! I would definitely try and recreate a similar card !

  20. Love that blue colour mix you got, very fresh, delicate & pretty. That leaf frame is equally pretty, I like the match up. Thanks for your inspirational work.

  21. As always, you’ve created a very pretty card. I love how you showcased the watercolors for creating beautiful, custom backgrounds for card designs.

  22. I like creating washes and either using them for backgrounds like you did here or die cutting from them, like for florals or even sentiments. I love how you added the cover die. It looks like its hovering from the looks of the shadows! When you layer them you lose that effect. You got a much better result than I normally do. Must be those skinny Darice foam strips! Trying those soon for sure! Great card!!!

  23. Beautiful card! I love the subtle change of color in the background. The simple sentiment is perfect with the lovely leaf die.

  24. Love is definitely the theme of your card as I love the soft blue ombre of your background. It is gorgeous and so delicate

  25. I love to use watercolors for the background of a card. Love the blues in your card. This looks like a great set of watercolors.

  26. Awesome card! I like to color stamped images with watercolors and doing background is also my favorite, well, I love watercolors.

  27. Hi Nicole! Absolutely LOVE your background color choices and the wonderful way you used the leaf frame cover die as a just enough but not too much way to highlight it and the love sentiment! Thanks for sharing 🙂

  28. What an amazing background and card!!! I love the way your gradient watercolored background looks and the contrasting frame and sentiment! I love watercolors and their look but i’m still trying to learn how to make beautiful shadowing. I have to learn how to make your amazing flawless background too!

  29. Such beautiful and simple card! I loved the look of the gradient watercolor background. Thanks for the inspiration.

  30. This is a beautiful card. I love the leaf die! I’ve used watercolour crayons, and water based markers, and a few watercolour pencils, but not sure I’ve found what suits me best yet. This new set of WC looks amazing! Thx.

  31. What a cool card! The love appears to stand out and jump off the front! Wicked cool color combo! Thanks for sharing!
